Why is it important?
Our members are central to everything we do. We're not just committed to giving them the best possible service, but also making a positive difference to the communities they live in.
What we're already doing
Supporting vulnerable customers
Whether it’s the loss of a loved one or a health diagnosis, everyone can be vulnerable at some point in their lives. All colleagues in the Society have undertaken training in awareness of vulnerability and we have set up a working group, formed of specialists from across the business. Their role is to develop the Society’s current procedures to be able to help customers with special circumstances.
Funding the Foundation
Alongside the support of our members, the Society makes an annual donation to fund the Leeds Building Society Charitable Foundation. In 2016, it celebrated a significant milestone in its history with over £1.5m being donated to over 2,000 charities across the UK since it was set up in 1999.
Your Interest in Theirs
The Society gives all savings members the option to donate the pence amount of their interest received each year (up to a maximum of 99p) to charity. In 2016 a total of £99,000 was donated equally to Marie Curie, Age UK and Variety - the children's charity alongside the Leeds Building Society Charitable Foundation.
Giving time locally
We encourage all colleagues to use their seven hours volunteer time each year to support good causes in their area. We’re proud to say the number of colleagues volunteering more than doubled in 2016, leading to 2,530 hours spent helping a wide range of community projects.
Our 2017 - 2020 targets
- Achieve customer satisfaction scores of at least 90% in our regular customer feedback surveys.
- Provide 8,000 colleague-volunteering hours for our local communities.
- Donate £1.2m to charities and the community, through colleague fundraising, donations and sponsorship.
